South East UX

South East UX

I used to work and live in the South Eastern suburbs. I noticed that all Meetups take place in the CBD and it’s really difficult to attend those events without feeling the exhaustion from peak hour commuting. I also realised that, there are many companies based in the suburbs now and we should be able to keep it local.

There was definitely a gap!

So, on Tuesday evening in April 2019, I created a Meetup group to see if anyone is interested. It was a slow process, I sent out survey to see if people are interested in getting together and their availability. Finally I created my first event in September.

I was so glad that people turned up to my first meetup! It was small but that was a start!

It grew steadily and I recruited Steven and Louis to help run the meet up. We loved it! We met amazing people, amazing designers in the industry. Some businesses in the area were kind enough to allow us to use their venue. Thanks Kmart and Officeworks! ❤️

The uninvited Covid hit in March 2020. Everything went remote. We continued to run this from home. It was easier for people to attend, and we were getting people from all over the world. A few months later, ‘zoom fatigue’ hit and we were strained.

Our remote session is not the same as real meet up. It was more of a webinar. We don’t walk around the room saying hello to people, we don’t grab a bite and chat about their day/work. It became a little dull.

The three of use were having less dedicated time for SEUX. So we’ve decided to wrap it up. The last session was February 2021.

South East UX helped people connect, learn and share their experience or knowledge.

It was a short and sweet project that I might revive in the future!
